The Empire of Japan began engaging heavily in World War II as Mishima entered Tokyo Imperial University.

In 1945, Yukio Mishima receives a draft notice for the Imperial Japanese Army. However, during his medical examination, the army doctor misdiagnosed him with tuberculosis. As a result, Mishima was not able to serve his country and he returns to Tokyo.

Bombings were constantly occuring in Tokyo. As a result, the Hiraoka family, along with Mishima evacuated Tokyo in 1945, as bombings increased.

On Sepetember 2nd, 1945, Japan surrenders and the war ends. Mishima continues reading and writing literature as he attends the university.
